There are 12 worlds that you can download for The Sims 3. Other than the original one that was populated with the base game, through the years EA released another 11 worlds.
A couple of them were free to download (Riverview, Dragon Valley), others could be downloaded for free by pre-ordering an expansion pack (Barnacle Bay Adventure), or you could purchase them either with Simpoints or cash. These methods have been changing from time to time and it can be that a World which was previously available for purchase with Simpoints, can now only be purchased with cash. Most of them though still cost about 2,450 Simpoints.
More worlds were also made available by being shipped with certain expansion packs.
You can visit the The Sims 3 Store and browse through the Worlds section. You need to be a registered user to be able to buy / download any of these.
