While in Sims 2 your Sims can increase their skills by reading books, practicing, or by taking their chances with the opportunity cards, in Sims 3 there is an additional option to do so. Taking classes! The standard fee for any class is 400 Simoleons but you can look for exclusive discounts in the newspaper or around the town. These can take the prices down to 320 Simoleons!
Below is a list of the locations where your Sims can take classes to advance:
- Bistro or Diner → cooking, mixology
- Business / Journalism Office → writing, social networking
- City Hall → charisma
- Equestrian Center → riding
- Grocery Store → fishing
- Military Base → handiness
- Stadium → athletic
- School → painting
- Science Lab → gardening, inventing, science, logic, scuba diving
- Theatre → guitar, bass, piano, drums
- Thomas School of Art → street art
- Vault of Antiquity → alchemy
Tips:
- Buy more books from the bookstore or visit the library to borrow some!
- Sims in a good mood build skills faster, while in bad mood much slower!
- Sims with higher level skills perform certain tasks better and have more activity options
- Advance to fishing, painting, tinkering, planting seeds will unlock new interactions
